Northwest Arkansas and the SSO

Northwest Arkansas is becoming a global leader in collaboration for sustainability.
There are several market forces in NWA that create a unique opportunity for piloting a rapid and efficient transition to a sustainable society. The coexistance of a research- and knowledge- based university, a progressive population, and the serious mandates from corporate interests allows NWA to experience the sort of social and corporate integration that we have only dreamed about.

Since we were founded as the NWA Sustainability Center, many people have wondered what role SocialSustenance.org will play in its hometowns. The Social Sustenance Organization will continue to pilot our projects in areas that make sense. In leveraging our resources and promoting SmartGrowth/workplace principles, you can expect a large majority of our pilots to be managed in the same places that our staff, volunteers, board members, and partners live.

Finally, since many of our projects are here, and since NWA is becoming a global leader, you can expect a lot of news and event coverage for the area. This site will continue to be especially useful to others seeking information about sustainability in the Greater NWA area, and growth of our scope and coverage will be correlated to community-development. We encourage writers, editors, and commenters from any and all locales and perspectives. We have placed, and will improve, features that allow you to tag content with related locales.

Coming soon
As one of our plans for pilots here, we will be evaluating the effectiveness and value of an incentive program. Anyone may sponsor particular content on this website. However, in order to do so you must make a strongly-worded commitment to sustainability with an appropriate complexity level for you or your organization. In time we may incorporate 3rd-party sustainability metrics for arriving at a usable sustainability index. Individuals and entities in NWA are encouraged to support an effort which will benefit their local society.
